The Center for Science and Technology Education

The Center for Science and Technology Education aspires to achieve several goals: Promoting basic research and theoretical knowledge in teaching and learning science and technology; promoting the research and development of study materials; promoting research and development of the integration of advanced knowledge technologies in teaching and learning; developing innovation and entrepreneurship; providing support for graduate and doctoral students in order to train educational leadership; cooperating with institutions in the educational system and with the international community.

Development of scientific and technological literacy:

In this area of studies, we deal with questions regarding the relationship between general scientific education, worldview and the ability to function in modern society. The Center's main activity in this field is the National Science in Technology Program (MBT) which is currently operating in all elementary schools in Israel. A program for middle and pre-school children is being developed as well. A program on space, ecology and man is being carried out in cooperation with the Center for Educational Technology. with the involvement of leading academics in various faculties on the campus in the fields of Science, Engineering and Medicine.

Research in teaching science, mathematics and technology:

In this area of studies, we deal with questions related to the thought and learning processes as they relate to young and older students. The study examines intuitive concepts and the comprehension of concepts such as infinity, randomness and probability, analogy, causality, life, preservation of matter, etc. The researchers also examine and develop ways to promote mathematics education, while developing special training programs for mathematics teachers and student programs. In addition, research is being carried out in the fields of technological thinking, concepts of technology and concepts in robotics and control among children of different ages, from kindergarten through to higher education.

We operate the Laboratory for Information Technologies within the framework of the Center.
